Though, on this trip I prefered sleeping travelers.
The kids got lots of practice catching things, because I would throw them treats from the front seat to them in the very back of the van. The kids actually got better as the trip went on. They got used to sitting next to each other, and if they started fighting, we would turn off the movie!
We drove through a heat wave. It was 103 in Kansas! It was hot. We had to leave the car running any time we stopped, so we could never accurately see what we were averaging with gas/mileage, because we ran the car sitting in parking lots so often.
We saw a lot of windmills, and I was asking why anyone would argue not to put those up, and John called them, "eye pollution."
We stopped that evening at our friend's Becky's parents in Colorado. I can't believe I didn't take a picture! We had such a fun time visiting with them, and we've adopted them as our second parents!
The next day, on our way to Utah, we stopped at a Dinosaur museum in Grand Junction. Trevan loves dinosaurs, and I had originally wanted to stop in Vernal at the Dinosaur stuff there, but their fossil wall was closed for repairs, so that will be our next trip!
John challenging the spitting dinosaur. It moves, makes noise, and spits water.
Which of course scared Mallary.
We continued our drive to Utah, where we hit the highest temps right after crossing into Utah at 104 degrees.
We have so many good friends that live in the west, and we knew we wouldn't be able to see them all, but we tried to squeeze some in as best we could! We hope to have more time to see more friends the next time we head west!
On our way to my brother's house, we had our friends Christian (one of John's roommates at Ricks College) and his wife Brooke meet us at the Brick Oven for dinner. We had never met any of their kids, and hadn't seen them since we left Utah!!
I really wanted to post a before picture of us from back in the day, before any of us had kids, but I'm too lazy. Here we are all together.
After dinner, we headed north to my brother's house to visit for a few days.
