Vegetation

My mom loved the tropical flowers in Hawaii. For her funeral, we had the casket spray done with tropical flowers; orchids, birds of paradise, ginger, etc. (when asked by the florist if we wanted to attach a card, we said no, but I said, "if we did one we should say, 'see you in paradise.'" so clever.) So, I was excited to see all the flowers she talked about. The plumeria was absolutely divine. Not a big fan of the scent at BBW, but I could inhale plumeria all day.

The yellow trees weren't as common, but I thought they were just so stunning to see!

A banyon tree in Waikiki

The roots grow down from the branches into the grown. The craziest thing to see!

Wouldn't that have been so fun to play in as a kid??

The trees in Hawaii had the coolest bark.

We thought someone had painted it, and then looked closer! So cool!

We went to an arboretum and hiked around a bit.

I have some of this in my house. My mom taught me what it was. Whenever I tell people it is called Mother in law's tounge they don't believe me. Even John said, "how do you know that's what its called?" Here is the proof people.

I loved these!

Ginger

More fun bark

Gardenias are one of my favorites! I planted two bushes and they died. They smell so divine!

The florist put one of these in the flowers that went on my mom's casket because Marianne asked him to. The lone gardenia.

There was a hike at the arboretum to a waterful. When we got there we were like, "ummm..."

Candi or Marianne said it looked like someone was standing on the other side with a water hose.
I had expected to see all of those gorgeous water falls that I had seen in pictures, but those are on the other islands. So, I'll get to those my next trip.

Camo bark. Loved it.

Impatiens grow wild there.

This tree had warts. The prettiest warts I have ever seen.

You can't see the whole tree trunk, but it was very large.

A lot of the trees were losing their leaves. I thought this tree looked so funny with the yellow flowers on bare branches.
