Way to go parents!

Yesterday, was Trevan's end of quarter awards ceremony.

I hate them.

Seriously?  We have to have an awards ceremony after each grading period?  Ugh.  I think its ridiculous.

I go.  Not totally willingly.  I go to show Trevan I love him I guess, that I'm excited for his good grades.

It's not very fun getting there at 8 am, looking decent, then trying to keep your other two kids quiet.  During this one, Jonah threw his tractor trailer match box car which made a crazy loud noise, and it landed three rows ahead of us.  Seriously guys, there are not a lot of parents there that bring other kids.  I am in the minority.

Anyway, as I'm there, and keep hearing the names of the awards given out, I kept thinking what the title of the award should really be...

I'll share those with you.

Instead of the Perfect Attendance Award it should be -
  • Lucky you for not getting sick Award
  • Thanks a lot for coming to school sick Award
  • Never traveling anywhere Award
Instead of the Outstanding Academic Award (for kids who are working at a level above the actual grade they are in):
  • Your child should be in the next grade up Award
  • We're sorry, but we won't be challenging your child anymore this year Award
Instead of the Pledge Keeper Award (Good Citizenship) it should be -
  • Your parents can breathe a sigh of relief Award
  • You have a patient teacher award
(One class everyone was a pledge keeper, the next class was like half, one class everyone except two kids.  I felt sorry for those two kids...)

Instead of the Reading Award (for recording their nightly reading in their planners) -
  • Good job parents Award
  • Your parent has a good memory Award
Let's be realistic, most of the rewards are for the parents at this age.  Let me just pat myself on the back.  Blah blah.  Trevan did get all of these awards, except for perfect attendance. I mean, I got all these awards, except for perfect attendance...

(POST SCRIPT: I was reading the new names of the awards I came up with to John, and Trevan over heard and was like, "I don't like the names of your awards, Mom.  Those aren't good names.")

an awards ceremony after EVERY grading period? that is ridiculous. i think i would have to boycott. and it's silly that every kid got an award - i hate that trend (everyone gets a trophy for trying!). how are kids supposed to learn to be a good loser?
