Christmas Vacation

For Christmas vacation, we left this...

and drove to Texas to spend Christmas with John's family.

A week before Christmas, we left our house in a hurry to beat the incoming snowstorm. We originally had planned to leave the following day, but we didn't want to get snowed in, and not be able to leave. We drove through snow for four hours that night, and stopped to stay in a hotel only about two hours away from our house.

The kids love staying in hotels for some reason. Do you like Mallary's bed on the chair? That night we got to the hotel, John left us in the room and went to finish work in the hotel's business center. He got back into the room about 1:30 in the morning, and then Mallary would finally go to sleep...

The entire drive is about 18 hours, and the next day I talked John into driving straight through the rest of the way. We arrived to John's brother's house near Houston, about 2:00AM Sunday morning.

The kids were seriously so great 99.9% of the trip. John and I were able to knock out three or four of the states we had never been in, and now we only have a handful more to go before we can say we have been in every state.

I think this was the first trip that I have helped drive since our trip from Utah to Texas in 2003. I really should drive more, because then I don't have to deal with what the kids need... I also discovered John is much chattier when he is in the passenger seat. I guess the whole male, multi-tasking thing, even applies to driving.

So, instead of doing my normal marathon post, I will be posting our Christmas vacation in smaller posts...

Get ready for some funny pictures...
