You would think she can't get around this right??? WRONG!!!!
I would be either upstairs or downstairs and I could hear a light switch being turned on and off, on and off, and it was Mallary. She would have climbed onto a chair or the totes to reach the light switch. Once, I was on the computer and I realized it had gotten quiet in the living room. I went to the stairs, and Mighty Girl had moved the totes and climbed the stairs. I found her in my bathroom floor with everything from under our bathroom sink spread everywhere.
I put off buying a gate for a long time, because the kind I wanted was so expensive. On two separate Saturdays I had had enough, and went to the store specifically to buy a gate. One store didn't carry the kind I wanted, and the other store was sold out of the kind I wanted. So, I tried to live with the madness. I have bruises on the inside of both of my knees, my hips, and my back from climbing over that mess and hitting something in the process. Not to mention the bagillion times I stubbed/jammed my toes. Seriously, painful! You have no idea.
I was telling a friend about my woes, and she offered to let me borrow her gate!
HAAALLELUIAH! (To be read as if a choir of angels were singing it)
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!

LOL -- yay for livesaving gates. :)
We have the same gate and B doesn't like it either -- go figure :)
Yes, the things we do to be creative in keeping our kiddos off the stairs. Ugh, I have to go gate shopping soon.....
Gates are amazing (until the kids figure them out, that is :)). I was like you, and really didn't want to buy a gate--mostly because I think they are too expensive! I had a friend give me a bunch of hand me down clothes and some other very useful items, including a baby gate! And, I found another gate at a used baby sale for $5. Yahoo for cheap blockades! Glad your life will be easier now :).
