"Homegirl needs a haircut."
"Homeboy needs a new diaper."
"After Homeboy's soccer practice."
This is the kind of talk that goes on in my head. I now refer to my kids as homegirl or homeboy. I haven't used those terms since maybe college or something?? But, now, on a daily basis, in my head, I refer to my kids not by their names but by homegirl or homeboy.
The other day I figured it out.
I can't remember my children's names, or I go through the list, "Jonah, Everett, Trevan..." way too often so my subconscious figured out by itself that Homegirl or Homeboy would just be easier.
I have yet to say it outloud, except maybe once when talking to John about one of our kids.
It's just too funny.
Hopefully, it won't get so bad that when I introduce my kids to people I say, "and this is Homegirl... I mean Mallary."
