My thoughts this morning

"Who wants to do this everyday?  Who signs up for this?  Oh, yeah, me... three times..."

Well, maybe I should just count two times.  Let's be honest, I had no idea when I was pregnant with Trevan that one day I would spend every morning after breakfast (and lunch, and dinner...) on my hands and knees cleaning up the floor under his chair.  But definitely, after him, I had a better understanding of what my future might hold....

This morning it was Cheerios (Honey Toasted Oats to be exact) and bran muffins.  Some mornings, Jonah does an excellent job to make sure he covers a wide radius.  This morning was an average coverage, could have been worse, could have been better.  My absolute favorite (read least favorite) is while I'm on my hands and knees cleaning up the floor under him, he takes his dirty little paws and pats me on the head.  His way of saying, 'Thanks, mom!  You're the best!"  and leaving remnants of bran muffins in my hair.  You would think I would learn to clean his hands first, right?  See?  Even after three kids I still don't know everything!!  Maybe it's after your fourth?  Or fifth?

I wouldn't change a thing.  (Except, maybe get a dog to clean up the floor under them?  Hire a maid?)  I had no idea when we made the decision to start having kids what exactly was in store for me.  There is no way I could have known.  You can be sure I never pictured myself on my hands and knees every morning cleaning up my kitchen floor.  I think I did try to picture the love that would exist.  I knew I would love them, but I really had no idea of that either.  No dictionary could define that love, no test could measure it.

But, I think to some degree it is measurable - I mean, I get on my hands and knees every morning and wipe up Jonah's breakfast... and I'll do it again tomorrow.  No big deal.  I'd do it for the rest of his life if I had too.  That's how much I love him.

(Though, I'm pretty sure if he's sixteen and still tossing his breakfast on the floor, he's going to get in BIG trouble...)
