Marrying a stranger

Last weekend I was driving and Trevan was quite talkative:

Trevan: Mom, why can't I marry my sister?

I tried to help him understand why... Do you think an almost six year old understands genetics?

A little while later, out of the blue...

Trevan: I want to marry someone the same color as me so we'll match.

Me: The person you marry can be any color you want them to be.

Trevan: I want to match. (This coming from the boy that said he wanted me to have a black baby when I was pregnant with Mallary. Really. He told people I was having a black baby. When we did the new sibling class at the hospital before Mallary was born, all the kids were to pick out a baby doll to practice with during the class, and Trevan was the only one to pick a black baby doll. He may have been a little disappointed about Mallary's skin color.)

A little while later...

Trevan: Why do I have to marry a stranger?

Me: They won't be a stranger when you decide to get married, I promise.

Dear college roommates & friends: Many of you have daughters around Trevan's age... can we secretly arrange some "getting to know you" meet ups throughout the years so he won't marry a stranger? Maybe we could help them all be graduated from college before they marry? Modern day arranged marriages...

it must be a common thing. this girl at work said her kids asked if they could marry each other too. i think it's cute, unless they never grow out of it, that would be weird. hee hee.
