Yesterday, I had my fifth mole removal surgery. Same mole (my thirteenth removed) I had removed last week, but the lab report wasn't good, so they had to go back for some more. This was my first lab report that actually had the word, 'melanoma', in it. The cells of my mole sample were so atypical they resembled melanoma cells, but they couldn't be sure?, so they went back to get some more just to be sure they got it all. My dermatologist wasn't taking any chances with the 'm' word. Which is good I guess. But, let me tell you, this mole was less than 3mm, and for the last two skin checkups before last week, I pointed it out to my Doctor to have removed, but she was okay just watching it because it was so little. Finally, this last appointment, she was like, "It is a little abnormal... let's just get rid of it and not worry about it anymore." Seriously, I think I'm an expert now.

I used to be so nervous when I'd go in to have my moles removed, etc. Now, it doesn't even phase me. I still flinch when the stinging occurs from the numbing, but I'm not sweating bullets anymore, and I'm not worried about feeling like I may puke or pass out anymore. I didn't even shave my legs for my surgery (the mole is on my shin), which I totally would have done normally. When my Doctor looked at it before the nurse prepped me for surgery, I said to her, "I'm sorry Dr. Jordan, I just didn't have the energy to shave my legs this morning." She laughed, and said that it was okay. Any woman who's been pregnant can look at how big I am and understand why I may not feel like shaving my legs one day. (For the record, I'm not a very hairy person, so I don't get a 5 o'clock shadow on my legs or anything...)

When I was driving home, I decided I didn't feel like doing any parenting, so I drove to the movie theatre instead. The only option for my kids to watch was Alvin and the Chipmunks. So, we watched that, and had popcorn and soda for lunch. I'm such a good mother.

When we left the theatre, Trevan said, "That was fun! Thanks for bringing us to the movies mom!" I said, "I'm glad you had fun, thanks for saying thank you." "Well, thank you for saying...." he didn't quite know how to finish his sentence. He's so sweet, it melts my heart.

Then, my day got even better... Mallary fell asleep in the car on the way home, and she transferred to her crib peacefully, and stayed asleep until 4 o'clock!!! I got to take a nap yesterday!!!!! Woo hoo!! Although, Trevan did wake me up every so often to ask if he could do something, or just with his running around, but I was still able to sleep some, which NEVER happens!

I'm glad they de-moled you and hopefully that is the last you'll hear about the "m-word". Which reminds me... do you remember that summer we were so tan. I don't think I'll ever see that again but we sure did look good then.

I know I won't ever see that again! I'm afraid I have a life full of de-moling ahead of me... I was looking at those pictures on Saturday while oraganizing some photos. Too funny! We were tan!

So glad you are in good hands and having your moles carefully monitored! My melanoma popped up while I was pregnant. Pregnancy hormones can do crazy things to moles, so we must stay on top of them! Glad you are healthy!

P.S. Whenever I have shaved or showered or washed my hair and have to be at an appt. I always tell myself, "I'm SURE they've seen worse in their profession..." Makes me feel better.
