I started off the New Year with a brief round of single parent hood. Did you notice I wasn't around? I was a little busy. I could have posted, but I was busy nesting.
John left that first Monday for a business trip and then returned late Thursday night. That is the longest I have stayed by myself, ever, I think. I used to have issues being alone, I don't really anymore.
Anyway, did I mention I stayed busy? Literally worked from the time my feet hit the floor in the morning to the time my head hit the pillow at night (and in some cases early morning). I was determined to have our house cleaned and organized before John came home (and even after all that work, I only managed to get a few things cleaned and organized...). I watched very little TV, like less than two hours in four days? That's a big deal for this tired pregnant woman. And, even if I was watching TV, I was working at the same time! I was a determined little lady. Well, not so little if you take into account my belly, but I was determined.
Do you know what I realized? I get more done with my husband gone, than if he's here. What's up with that? I was so productive.
My kids were really great all week. We did some fun things together, and started some new habits for the new year. But, admittedly, that Thursday, I was done with single parenting. My children must have been done with it too, because they were crazy. I called my neighbor friend that afternoon to see if she wanted to go shopping with me, and she could hear it in my voice. She was so nice and offered to watch my kids so I could go to the store by myself. That hour by myself (and the hot chocolate from Starbucks), was just the hour of sanity that I needed. (That and it was time to put the kids to bed when I got back home.) Don't you wish you had a good neighbor friend like me?
Anyway, John got home late that night, and his first words to me when he came up the stairs were, "Looks like you've been busy."
Yes. Yes I was.
He rewarded me with a nice massage, that made me too sleepy to want to pack. Pack for where? you may ask.
Oh, that's my next post...
