A Funny Fourth

It was just one of those days...

We planned on picking blueberries and blackberries on Saturday morning, but after we woke up we decided we didn't have enough time before we were going to meet up with family and go to the lake.

So, no berries.

Instead, I paid a fortune for them at the store (at least they were "on sale").

We packed up the kids, the sand toys, the swim diapers, the water toys, the beach towels, the sun hats, and of course the sunblock, and drove 45 minutes to the lake, which was full! What??? We could see the beaches and how empty they were!! Anyway, so we turned around and drove the 45 minutes home.

So, no lake.

On the way home I thought I remembered where a campground pool was, and we took a little detour to find it. Never did.

So, no pool.

I wanted to do something fun, because we had been working so hard all week, but John's vote was to take a nap. Oh, I forgot to mention that Mallary had been sitting in her own diarrhea that whole time in the car, and we didn't know it. Which explained her cranky screaming the whole way there and back. She has had a fever off and on since Thursday, but the diarrhea was a new development. Anyway, so we sat around hemming and hawing, and I wanted to do something fun because my niece was here. I offered to set up the baby pool next to the sand box to make it feel like we were at a lake. I even suggested John jumping in to make the waves... No takers. Laurajane decided she just wanted to watch Gilmore Girls, John tried to take a nap, and I decided to do more work.

So, no fun.

We also planned to have some friends over for dinner on Sunday, but after Mallary's new "development," I felt obligated to call and warn them that she had been sick, and they might not want their kids to catch it.

So, no dinner.

Things started looking up when Laurajane and I went shopping that evening and found some cute things, I made a fun new product, and yesterday, our friends decided to come after all because Mallary was doing better.

We had so much good food (I didn't get a picture of the food that they bought, but yummy!) So, we had a fun dinner and the girls beat the guys in Rook. I just needed to point that out. (Even though my husband probably won't read this for at least two weeks.)

So, we had a fun fourth after all.
