My little underachiever

Trevan had his first baseball game last night.

I'm continuing to see that my son is an underachiever.

He went up to bat the first time, and when the pitches came he barely swung the bat.  He swung it just enough to look like he might be playing, but we can tell the difference.  If he missed the next pitch he would strike out.  Then, on the next the pitch he swung, and crack!  He hit it hard right down the middle.

He went through this both times he went up to bat.  On the last swing he could take before getting out, he hit it.

On the way home, we asked him about it.

Us:  How come you weren't really trying to hit the ball?

Trevan:  I was.

Us:  No, you weren't honey, we could tell.

Trevan:  I was kind of trying.

Us:  Well, if you only want to kinda try, you won't be playing baseball anymore.

Trevan:  I tried.

Us:  We can tell when you are trying, and you actually tried the two times you hit the ball.  How come you only tried those times?

Trevan:  I knew if I didn't hit it I would get out.  I didn't want to get an out, so I hit it. (as nonchalant as that...)

Us:  Why don't you try on the first few pitches and then you don't have to wait until the last one????

He is such a stinker.

He is super funny to watch though, and the only boy with dirty pants at the end of the game.

He slides into home base.  Like a real baseball slide.

It was funny, because he slid into home base the first time but was about two inches short.  So, he stood up, jumped on home base, and his feet slid right underneath him and he fell on his rump.  The second time he slid into home, he made it to the base.

Never a dull moment with that one...
