Halloween!!

What are your traditions for Halloween?

We have one that surprises people...

When Trevan was two or three, we went trick or treating with my brother and his family.  After the treats had been gathered, we went back to their house and watched their girls devour the candy they had dumped out on the floor.  There were no limits placed on how many pieces they could eat or anything.  I thought that was interesting, so we ended up doing it too.

So, I am here today to be a myth buster.  Your kids will not get sick if you let them eat a ton of their Halloween candy in one night.  (and, if they ever did get sick, wouldn't that be a great lesson to them?)AND they will NOT stay awake all night bouncing off the walls.  Who came up with that stuff??  It has yet to happen to us, and our kids sleep like babies.  Hello?!  They are exhausted from all the trick or treating!

What I have found is that my kids have learned how to monitor themselves.  They stop when they are full, and give us their buckets.  We let them have their candy when they ask for it.  Well, we do make them eat breakfast first.  The other benefit to this great tradition?  The candy doesn't hang around very long.  Although, our kids kind of get sick of the candy, and stop asking for the leftovers - so it usally gets dumped.

Another rule?  We make them share.  I must have said once, that if they don't share, they don't go trick or treating.  So, they share...  :)

Happy trick or treating!!
