Monday's Mothering Forum

John had an epiphany at the end of last week... He came up with this idea to help our kids be better listeners, to tone down the screaming and fighting etc.

I made a clock on card stock and attached only one hand on it with a brad, so I can move it. At the 12 o'clock spot I put 8:00 (the kid's bed time). Where the 10 would normally be I put 7:50, where the 9 should normally be I put 7:45, and so on.

If Trevan decides he doesn't want to listen or the kids are screaming and fighting, we move their bed time back. Trevan does not like to go to bed early!

We just started it, so we have yet to determine it's effectiveness. Though this morning, Trevan wouldn't stop arguing with me, which in return I had to keep moving his bed time back. After the third time moving it, he finally closed his mouth, looked at my handy dandy clock, and turned around and went to do what I asked him to do. So, I think he got it.

They can earn back minutes towards their normal bed time by doing nice things like sharing, etc.

We'll see how it goes...

Do you have something effective that you use? Or have you seen someone use a cool way to help their kids be better listeners that you liked? Do share!

Very interested to hear how this goes, as I have been considering something similar for a while.
