Where did this year go? My children are growing up so quick. It seems like every week I put a pair of pants on Trevan that are too short, or a shirt with sleeves that are too short. I feel like I go through his clothes so often and pack away the ones that don't fit!
Trevan was my big helper this year. It seems like such is the lot for the oldest child. He helps so willingly almost all of the time, and has such a wonderful disposition. He helped notify me whenever Mallary was doing something she shouldn't, which was really helpful, and he also started doing chores this year. His main chore is taking out the recycling. All I have to say is, "Trevan, I have some stuff to take out to recycling," and he'll stop whatever he is doing and run into the kitchen and take the recycle items to the bin in the garage. I think only twice has he not done it immediately or said, "You can do it." One of his other chores was to make sure he put his pajamas under his pillow after he took them off to get dressed for the day. He was very good about it, but then I would find like four pairs of pajamas under his pillow in a week. He would forget to put them back on, and just get a new pair.
This year we also started making Trevan try whatever we were having for dinner. He couldn't leave the table unless he at least tasted everything, and if he didn't want to eat it, he could try it for breakfast. My days of preparing different food for everyone to eat is over. Now I know for my other kids. Really, the only food that makes him gag is sweet potatoes. So, I don't make him try those anymore. But, this would definitely be the year that Trevan sat at the dinner table for at least an hour very often.
Trevan still loves all things Star Wars, Ninja Turtles, and Transformers. Buzz, Zurg, Woody, and Cars aren't really a big deal anymore. Though, he will still occassionally play with them.
Trevan graduated to bunk beds this year too. He was very excited about getting them, and then a little nervous to sleep in them at first. That passed quickly.
The things Trevan remember, and observe still surprise me all the time.
It is a little sad for me that he is at the age where he imitates what other kids say, or do. I wish he could stay little forever.
Trevan is so sweet to me. If I am crying he will bring me toilet paper to wipe my nose. I don't even ask him. If he notices I am upset he will come and give me a hug.
He still spends most of his days running around the house, making gun noises and pretending to battle who knows what. He likes to tell jokes, and likes to be told jokes. He likes John to put him to bed, because John tells longer stories. He still tells me to stop singing or dancing whenever I do it. Could I really be that bad for a five year old to tell me those things?
It's so fun to watch him learn new things, or understand new concepts. It's fun to hear the questions he asks, you can tell he is really thoughtful and is trying to figure things out. When we were driving to John's parents house after we opened presents on Christmas morning, all of a sudden Trevan said, "I must have been a good boy this year because Santa bought me presents." It was fun to hear him use deductive reasoning. I also loved listening to him sing along to Christmas carols in the car this year.
He's very excited about me having another baby, and hopes for a girl to come out first and then a boy to come out next. I keep trying to tell him that there is only one baby in my belly.
Trevan is just adorable, and I love him so much. 2010 will be a big year for him!
