Christmas TV Specials Tradition

When I was a little kid, one of my "most favorite-est" things about Christmas was being able to stay up later and watch Christmas specials on TV. I LOVED it!!! Now that I am grown up, it's still one of my most favorite-est things!

During the Christmas seasons after John and I got married (and had cable), we would watch a Christmas special every night almost. John would typically fall asleep while I would watch. Admittedly, most Christmas specials are extremely cheesy, but that's all part of the fun of it.

Unfortunately, we stopped getting cable four years ago, so our options are quite a bit more limited. Also, once we started having kids, I started falling asleep through the specials.

I've always wanted to start the tradition of watching one special a night, either a movie we already have, or something on TV. Reality has now set in, and due to busy schedules, lack of options, and my exhaustion I have come to the conclusion this is not very realistic. But, I still want to do it. So, what I want to try is to at least watch a special or read a Christmas story every evening before Christmas as a family. Can't you just picture me with teenagers? "I'm sorry Trevan you have to end your date early tonight, so you can come home to watch Home Alone with us." That's one thing about traditions - sometimes they are changed or adjusted to fit better into your current life...

So, last night Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer was on, and I was probably more excited to have Trevan watch it than he was. John popped popcorn, and we watched the movie. Have you watched that movie as an adult? The little characters sing songs about themselves being "misfits," and "nitwits." John and I exchanged many glances saying, "this movie is pretty crazy."

But, it was fun to watching Trevan watch it.

It only took about 30 tries on my camera to get this picture. My camera does not do well in dim lighting...

Enjoy your cheesy Christmas Specials this season!
