Thought of the day

This picture hung in my grandmommy's kitchen and I always found myself reading it over and over when I ate at her kitchen table. Even as a young child I could recognize its great message.

We aren't quite sure who made it. It wasn't my grandmother, but we know it is REALLY old. On the back, written on masking tape it said, "Sissy's when Sister is done with it." (My mom's family called her Sissy. She was the only girl with four brothers.)

Sometime before my mom died I saw the picture leaning randomly against something in a bedroom at her house. I asked her if I could have it, and I could see the doubt in her face. "It's not your style," she said. "I know but I really like it," I replied. She said, "we'll see," and that was the end of it.

Later, after she died, I saw it again, and asked my dad if I could have it. No one else wanted it, so I got it!! I updated it with a new frame, had a mat cut, and took out all the yucky staples that was making it rust and reblocked it. (I saved a lot of money doing it myself!! At least $300 that is!!) It will hang in my office/workspace as a helpful reminder for me. I really love it, and I really love the message.

Every day I get a fresh start. I hope to make the best of it!
