Rain on my parade

I love to see the happiness on my kids faces when they get a new toy, when they think something is fun, when I surprise them with something, or when they figure out something cool. Sometimes, though, things don't turn out quite how you expect them to. For example; you buy a new toy for your child, it breaks as soon as you get it home, you get in the car to go to the playground, it starts to rain, you spend time picking out a movie for your son, bring it home and he's totally not interested in watching it.

Yesterday, I had one of those moments.

One of Trevan's little friends was over, and I thought I had a fun idea for lunch. I talked it up to them, and told them I had a fun surprise for lunchtime, and got busy making it. On Wednesday, one of my friend's daughters was eating a peanut butter, marshmallow fluff sandwich and it gave me the idea to make a peanut butter s'more sandwich. So, I thought I'd try it out.

I buttered the outside of two pieces of french bread and filled the inside with peanut butter, mini marshmallows, and delicious Lindt milk chocolate. I thought to myself, "I am such a cool mom, making my kids s'more sandwiches for lunch, and we are still in our pajamas. How cool is that? Eating s'more sandwiches for lunch in our pajamas."

I pulled them out of the oven, nice and toasty, put them on some plates, called in the kids, showed them the deliciousness they were about to enjoy, told them what it was, and this is what I heard;

"I'm not hungry."
"I don't like marshmallows smashed like that."
"I just want a peanut butter sandwhich."
"No thank you."
"oooooh."
"I don't want to eat the gooey part."

What?? You don't want to eat chocolate and marshmallows and peanut butter? Are you crazy?

Mallary had a little bit, but didn't want anymore. Trevan tried it, (that's the rule at our house, you have to at least try it) and after two bites said, "mmm... yummy," and then asked for a regular peanut butter sandwich.
Okay, I will say they do look a little scary,
but who doesn't like a s'more, even if it's on two pieces of bread?

I love the "you have to try at least one bite rule!" Trevan looks like he is in pain.

Mallary's expressions say, "Do I really have to eat this? Are you sure? Okay, I want something different to eat."

Sometimes things just don't work out how you picture them in your mind.
After they finished eating boring peanut butter sandwiches, I ate my scrumptious s'more sandwich... and theirs too.

p.s. - i am totally inflicting the "you have to try it once rule" when i have kids. that's a good idea.
